Ruth Marie Mackrodt has a background in finance and and construction. She has recently converted a 200 year old Pembrokeshire barn using fully sustainable design principles and has a wealth of knowledge in property investment and the protection of asset value through sensitive retrofit.
Ruth - Marie was keen to develop insulative products from Welsh Wool that were free from plastics and made from 100% welsh wool as she had noticed a gap in the market whilst converting her welsh barn!
Ruth - Marie was a finalist in the Institute of Directors Wales (IOD) awards 2024 in the Sustainability category!
Mair Jones comes from a farming background stretching back many generations.
Based in Swansea her family run Welsh Mountain ewes and a small flock of Ryeland x Dorset's who happily featured grazing in the background of our Circular Economy film back in 2023!
Mair has a successful background in Transport & Logistics before moving into the Sustainability sector in Housing.
Experiencing first hand the lack of financial return too farmers for their annual wool clip, Mair was inspired to innovate and bring about new and novel applications from Welsh Wool that challenged the 'norm' in the built environment, bringing solutions that can help decarbonise our homes whilst improving the return back to the agricultural communities of Wales.
We provide high quality insulation products with a low carbon footprint made from local, sustainable and circular economy materials
Truewool® loft insulation was launched in 2023 by Wool Insulation Wales Limited and is the UK's only 100% British sheep wool insulation product
Truewool® loft insulation is 100% plastic/polyester free and is manufactured in the UK
30 million sheep are sheared in the UK every year making it a local and totally renewable raw material. However the use of wool in clothing and carpets has collapsed over the past few decades - which means that across the EU it is estimated that as much as 70% of wool clipped every year is buried in the ground. A waste of an amazing resource.
At the same time many of our buildings need more insulation. Loft insulation and draught proofing are amongst the most cost effective measures for improving the the energy efficiency of buildings - and keep the people inside warm and comfortable.
Using wool makes sense for the environment as well. Wool is actually a
carbon store - it is made up of around 50% carbon. It also has a carbon footprint of less than 5% of glass and stone wools.
No-one wants to fill their home with unpleasant materials or dangerous chemicals such a formaldehyde. Truewool® is easy and safe to handle and lets you breathe easy.
